March Marlins impress at Newmarket gala
07 Nov 2023
March Marlins took a squad of 24 swimmers to the Newmarket Novice gala to compete alongside Huntingdon Piranhas, Newmarket and District Swimming Club and Deben Swimming Club.
The group’s superb efforts saw them win the gala with 22 PBs in a variety of strokes.
For some of the super swimmers, it was a debut on the racing scene and they performed fantastically as older swimmers and siblings helped settle them in as everyone showed some great team spirit which ultimately propelled the Marlins to victory.
One event saw particular success for the club; the parent and coach relay. Graham Shaw, Edd Scott, Harry Rayner and Grace Webb all placed 1st in the event.
The squad present for the Blue Army included: Wilson Brewer, George Lapkovskis, Sonny O’Neil, Max Primmer, Chris Scott, Noah Staton, Charlie Venables, Riley Warren, Mason Wilmer, Olivia Bostock, Olivia Busby, Brooke Cain, Molly Creighton, Eden Davies, Harriett Feaviour, Mia Jones, Lana Mould, Kitty Payne, Rosie Sansam, Nyah Scott, Hana Stoner, Yas Waite and Ivy Webb.
Elsewhere, Jude Staton qualified to take part in the East Region Short Course Championships. The regional event took place at the weekend in Luton.
The star swimmer from March performed brilliantly returning with PBs two distances. His 50m backstroke now sits at 29.98s and his 200m time is now 02:21.50.
