On Saturday 15th April 2023 two March Marlins swimmers, Connor and Harry Rickard, attended the GB Deaf Swimming Championships at Loughborough University.  With swimmers congregating from all over the country it was great to see the children re-connecting and very quickly you’d never know that they only meet twice a year.  With a small number of deaf swimmers it was a very relaxed affair and mainly quiet due to all the sign language going on!  Connor had eight events and managed to get personal best times in every event.  There was good competition in Connor’s age group so he was even more surprised to receive 7 gold medals and 1 silver medal along with the Category A ‘Swimmer of the Day’ award.  Harry had seven events which he managed personal best times in two events.  Harry received gold medals for all four of his 50m events and then 1 silver and 2 bronze medals for his 100m events in an open age category.  Connor and Harry were also part of a relay team in the 4 x 50m mixed freestyle event.  This was an exciting race against four teams and they were eventually pipped into silver medal position by a tenth of a second!  The weekend culminated with land training and swim training on Sunday morning and then goodbyes were said until October.
